What Does Effective Project Management Require?

Effective project management requires a combination of skills that include:

Planning the work, team, activities, and the resources required for the project.

Communication of the project plan with project team members and other stakeholders.

Estimating and budgeting time, costs and quality necessary to meet objectives of the project.

Schedule and alter the timeline of the project to accommodate obstacles or changes to scope.

Documenting the project’s results, evaluating the project’s success and planning for the transition to new projects.

Determining the project’s roles and assigning a team member for each task.

Breaking down huge projects, overwhelming ones into smaller tasks that are more manageable.

Using tools like Gantt charts and a work breakdown structure (WBS) to create a visual timeline for tasks, plan them out as well as adjust schedules and connect tasks.

Collaboration with various team members and others to get to know their concerns, needs and expectations.

Create a shared vision, and a communication plan, to ensure that everyone in the team are aware of the project objectives and how they align with company goals. They must also be aware of their contribution to achieving these goals.
